one of Portugal’s top science instituted, in the newly created
ERA Chair group – Molecular Biomaterials – led by Dr. Helena Azevedo.

By joining the project MOBILIsE – Molecular Bioengineering
in health ERA Chair, you will have the opportunity to develop cutting-edge molecular biomaterials for precision medicine technologies that will underpin novel therapies for cancer, infection, neurodegenerative diseases and tissue repair/regeneration.

MOBILISE ERA CHAIR

Assistant Researcher

We are recruiting an Assistant Researcher (equivalent to Assistant Professor) working in the field of Biomaterials applied to the development of disease models. Candidates should meet the criteria of “Established Researchers (R3)” established in the European Framework for Research Careers.

Admission requirements include:

  • Must hold a Ph.D. degree and have at least 5 years of post-doctoral experience working in the field of Biomaterials and/or Tissue Engineering. Experience and interest in disease models are essential;
  • Must have an established track record as demonstrated with high impact publications and conference presentations;
  • Skilled in advanced molecular biology and protein biochemistry techniques (Western-blot, immunohistochemistry, RNA isolation, RT-qPCR) and flow cytometry;
  • Skilled in mouse work (in utero injection, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence);
  • Experience in cell isolation and culture techniques: co-cultures, differentiation assays (2D and 3D – spheroid culture;
  • Experience in microscopy techniques (including live-imaging and confocal methodologies);
  • Good communication and presentation skills, with proven ability to write and prepare research papers and grants;
  • A team player with the ability to coordinate research activities of students and technicians;
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

MOBILISE ERA CHAIR

Junior Researcher 1

We are recruiting a Junior Researcher working in the field of Supramolecular Hydrogels. Candidates should meet the criteria of “Recognised Researchers (R2)” established in the European Framework for Research Careers.

Admission requirements include:

  • Highly motivated with a recent Ph.D. degree in Biomaterials or Materials Engineering, and a solid track record of achievements (high quality publications and conference presentations);
  • Experience and interest in the field of supramolecular hydrogels;
  • Skills in physical and chemical characterisation of hydrogels (micro/rheology, SEM, confocal microscopy, diffusion studies);
  • Experience in culturing cells in hydrogels;
  • Good communication and presentation skills, with proven ability to write and prepare research papers;
  • A team player with the ability to supervise the work of students and technicians;
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

MOBILISE ERA CHAIR

Junior Researcher 2

We are recruiting a Junior Researcher working in the field of Peptide-based Biomaterials. Candidates should meet the criteria of “Recognised Researchers (R2)” established in the European Framework for Research Careers.

Admission requirements include:

  • Highly motivated with a recent Ph.D. degree in Chemistry;
  • Experience and interest in the field of peptide therapeutics;
  • A solid track record in peptide chemistry and peptide-based materials as evidenced by high quality publications and conference presentations;
  • Skills in solid and solution phase peptide synthesis and combination methods;
  • Experience in analytical and preparative high-performance chromatography (HPLC) for peptide characterisation and purification;
  • Experience in molecular interactions techniques, such as UV-visible, fluorescence and circular dichroism (CD) spectrophotometry, surface plasmon resonance (SPR), isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC).
  • Good communication and presentation skills, with proven ability to write and prepare research papers;
  • A team player with the ability to supervise the work of students and technicians;
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

MOBILISE ERA CHAIR

Research Technician

We are recruiting a Research Technician/Lab manager to support the research work, including chemical synthesis and cell culture, organization and management of day-to-day lab activities, and training researchers in lab techniques and equipment use.

Admission requirements include:

  • Highly motivated with a BSc degree in Biochemistry or Biotechnology, and have at least 5 years of experience as a research technician;
  • Ability to work at the chemistry-biology interface and support research activities from chemical synthesis to cell culture;
  • Skilled in cell assays (microscopy, molecular biology and biochemical techniques);
  • A team player with the ability to interact with researchers with different backgrounds and career stages;
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
